Folio from a Bhagavata Purana manuscript: Parashurama fights Sahashrabahu. Central India, 19th century. Opaque watercolour with silver and gold on wasli. on paper. 17.8 x 38.2cm

By the artist's conceit we are able to see inside the modest dwelling in the background where sit Jamadagni (Parashurama's father), Renuka (his mother), and either his brothers or pupils.

I would like to express my gratitude to Tarun Pant for kindly translating the text.
