Folio from a Mahabarata manuscript. Pahari school at Kashmir. Circa 1820. Gouache and gold on fine glazed paper. Text to verso. 18.9 x 11cm

The picture is of Krishna, a gosain and the five Pandava princes with an as yet unidentified figure on the bed. I would like to thank Anna Dallapiccola for kindly giving this information.

This folio shows Pahari influence particularly to its finely painted and gilded borders; the blue border with meandering plant forms richly gilded, between narrow black borders featuring a typical Pahari recurring motif in simplified form.
