Fom mythology of the churning of the Kshera Samudra (Ocean of Milk), featuring in Mahabharata, Bhagavata Purana, and Vishnu Purana. The asuras (demons) comprising the usually mutually hostile Daityas and Davanas aid the devas (gods) in the churning of Kshera Samudra which produces the ambrosia of immortality. Daityas and Davanas then fight over it, resulting in carnage.
