Maharana Pratap Singh II with Amir Chand. Gouache and gold on paper. Mewar. Circa 1753. Page 39cm by 24cm; image 33cm by 17.8cm

This is a portrait of Jagat Singh’s son and successor Maharana Pratap Singh II (1751-54).  He is accompanied by the courtier Amar Chand, who features in Topsfield, A The City Palace Museum Udaipur, Paintings of Mewar Court Life. 1990, no.16.  The uppermost and fainter clerical inscription ends in the date VS 1810 (1753 AD).

He is shown with his rani in No. 28 (Maharana Pratap Singh II avec sa rani kachhwaha, 1753): Hurel R. & Okada A.. Pouvoir et Desire: Miniatures Indiennes Collection Edwin Binney 3rd du San Diego Museum of Art, Paris Musee, Findakly 2002.
