Vishnu with Lakshmi on Sesha Naga. Vishnu lies, holding attributes, his feet massaged by Lakshmi, on Sesha Naga, the multi-headed serpent of eternity, which is floating in the swirling primeval ocean. From Vishnu's navel springs a lotus seating four-faced Brahma. Pahari [Kangra or Guler] circa 1800-1820. Height 18cm Width 23cm.

From the estate of Andrew Kauffman, son of prolific early 20th century American author Reginald Wright Kauffman. Andrew was a mountain climber during the 1940s and 1950s who aided the Dalai Lama when leaving Tibet due to the Chinese advance. He brought home Tibetan artefacts and Indian minitures, some of the latter being exhibited in Washington, USA, in 1966.
